The 6 Yards of  Golden Delight : The “Akash Tara” Collection

Paris-Calcutta 1923. From the Right Bank to the bylanes of Chowringhee. Smoky rooms, brooding eyes and the sensuous sway of gold tinsel. Society ladies, impoverished artists, soldiers at war and poets in debt. Languid bodies swaying to jazz, rivers of ecstasy running wild, diamonds entangled in enraptured orgies of sequinned gossamer clad nubile limbs. Raise a drunken toast to unapologetic glamour and hedonistic style. The ‘Aakash-tara’ (i.e. starry skies) saree made its first appearance on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at the Filmfare Awards 2009. Hand-dyed and hand-cut sequins are individually hand-sewn using zardosi technique on 40gsm chiffon to create a near metallic fabric that is extremely supple and languid. A metallic red version made a reappearance on Deepika Padukone at the IIFA Awards 2015, a recent updated version was customised for Kim Kardashian for Vogue India. The Black Magic

When it comes to glamorous evening wear, nothing can surpass the power of black. Call it a cliché, call it overdone or repetitive, no other colour evokes a sense of mystery and glamour like the colour black does. Dress it up, dress it down, make it flamboyant or keep it conservative, black always creates an impact. On Her: The ‘Navratan’ lehenga with a black jet ‘Aakash-tara’ dupatta and blouse. The lehenga is meticulously hand-embroidered on black tulle with multi-hued velvet appliqués and highlighted with zardosi, crystals and pearls. The deeply romantic decadence is heightened by a hand-painted organza underskirt that peeps out through the shroud of black tulle. The glamorous outfit is accessorised with a stunning rose-cut diamond and emerald choker. Cabochon emerald studs and a multitude of rose-cut and emerald rings polish the statement look. Centre parted sleek hair, nude make-up and a tiny bindi keeps it ‘retro-modern’. Bridal Lehenga

This one is a sure shot going  to be  on every Bride- TO-Be  Wishlist. It’s not red, pink, blue or gold  but nude and damn its Oh So Beautiful!!

Sabyasachi Collection
“At Sabyasachi we specialise in cross-cultural weddings across the world. Often we meet Indian brides getting married to men from different global communities. The forever dilemma is to find a middle path between tradition and cultural appropriation. Especially when you are getting married in environments and settings alien to one’s culture. The Renaissance bride in a smoky nude and silver hand-embroidered lehenga and a gossamer veil splattered with Benarasi buttis in hand-beaten silver. The look is perfected with barely there make-up, centre parted hair and a stunning necklace and earring set in 151 carats of pure Golconda diamonds. Jewellery Courtesy: Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry”

Blush Pink Lehenga

At Sabyasachi we take the art of couture rather seriously. Our beautiful bridal lehengas are created in the good old fashion principles of dress making. From concept to finish, everything is lovingly created by human hands with skill sets passed down through many generations across many centuries. On Her: A pale blush pink silk lehenga hand-embroidered with Indian lotus motifs merging with European flora and fauna. The entire lehenga is meticulously hand-crafted in silk floss and gold and silver ‘tilla’ work. It takes 67 karigars, approximately 32 days to finish this piece of modern heirloom. The look is accessorised with vintage uncut diamond jewellery threaded together with baroque pearls, emeralds, tourmalines and Iranian turquoise beads.
