Inayat & Akshaan

How we met:

Akshaan is a software engineer and I’m a jewellery designer and event curator. My family is into fine jewellery by the name Dhanda Jewellers and his family is into the business of Desi Ghee by the name Mohan Ghee in Delhi.

It was in 2017 on a solo trip to Pondicherry that a friend recommended me to use this application called Aisle.I’ve never met a guy off the internet so I was hesitant. To my surprise, I found a couple of good matches who were all looking for a serious relationship.

Akshaan is a Delhi guy and I’m from Ludhiana. So after talking to each other for a week we finally decided to meet on 23rd June 2017 at a cafe. And it was love at first sight for me. Can’t believe while I’m writing this, but he was everything I’ve been looking for. He had an innocence about the way he smiled and looked at me. Eyes say everything a person and I was just observing that.

After a week, I had told my mother that I would like to marry him. My parents got extremely worried as to how could I decide in a week. So this entire courtship of about 3.5 years was for taking their nod. Little did I know this would also bring in lots of ups and downs in my life.

I’ve dealt with depression, started working from scratch, and build a life for us. My parents were clear that I should be independent with all aspects before I jump the wagon. I’m glad it happened that way. And Akshaan was with me, giving me confidence at my lowest.

He proposed to me in Hua Hin, Thailand but I laughingly said No because he didn’t have a ring. So he again planned an elaborate one at Udaipur and literally took me by surprise. “- says the bride.

“We had themes for every function. Mehendi was predominated by Anarkalis and Passa since it was a Mughal theme. We had professional Mujra performances also on Mehendi night. The engagement was blue Indian and western formals. For Haldi, the theme was yellow. The theme for the Wedding was pastels and the reception was glam.

I just wanted to be as different as possible. So, I wore a self-designed coffee-colored Anarkali for my Satsang. And went for Lavender coordinated Lucknowi outfits with Akshaan for my bangles ceremony. For Mehendi, I converted my mother and mother-in-law wedding clothes into an Anarkali. ” – says the bride.

“For Mehendi, I bought a Tribal lehenga from Hampi, Karnataka on a solo trip in 2016. And my Mehendi design on the right-hand side depicted Ludhiana and the left arm had elements from Delhi, with Akshaan and mine’s portrait. It had our wedding date, the first time we met, how and where we met.”- says the bride.

The lehenga has been hand-painted by the bride’s mother depicting royal Indian princesses and her love for dance in the form of kathak hand gestures (mudras) on the borders. Akshaan’s stole also had an Indian prince painted. This took the entire lockdown to achieve it.
